Gary Leslie installed as President of the IRFU Ulster Branch

Former Dungannon player and past president Gary Leslie was installed as President of the IRFU Ulster Branch last Thursday night.
In a meeting convened via Zoom the 140th Ulster Branch AGM voted Gary in for his second term as Ulster President. This is a unique honour for Gary who was first installed as President in August 2019. The office is usually for a term of one year but after a frustrating rugby season that saw club rugby terminated early and the new season commence late it was decided to ask the incumbent to stay in place for a second term.
In common with many organisations the senior management of the Ulster Branch have had a trying period over the past six months with committees meeting three or four times a week ensuring that COVID-19 plans for rugby in Ulster were implemented and updated as required.
Prop forward Gary joined Dungannon in 1991 after a distinguished early rugby career at Belfast High School, Ulster Schools, Irish Schools and Queen’s University.
Gary played in a golden era for Dungannon, winning the First Trust Senior Cup on five occasions, the Stevenson Shield and on a foul night in 1995 the All Ireland Floodlit Trophy. In 2001 Dungannon won the premier rugby championship in Ireland, the All Ireland League title, the first Ulster team to achieve the feat.
Gary was a member of the Ulster squad for several seasons gaining an elite honour as a player in the 1999 Ulster team that won the European Cup.
Gary also represented Ireland A.
As a Dungannon player he was captain in 1997-98, played 159 AIL games, a record at the time and was our player President in 2005-06.
After graduating from Queen’s Gary joined Moy Park on their graduate recruitment programme. Gary is now one of the group’s senior executives.
Garry has been successful as a rugby player and is proving to be a successful rugby administrator.
After a stressful and fractured rugby season (2019-20) we in all probability have another very difficult season ahead of us but we are convinced that in Gary Leslie Ulster have a good man as President.
All at Dungannon Rugby Club wish him and his wife, Dawn continued success this season.
