Dungannon Ladies clocked up another deserved win when they entertained Cooke at Stevenson Park on Sunday afternoon. The start was slow however and Cooke may well have had an early score but for a series of handling errors. That said their biggest mistake came on the 28th minute when a sloppy clearance allowed Dungannon to attack for scrum-half Shirley Beattie to dive over in the corner. On the 40th minute Ruth Montgomery eased the hosts further ahead with a second try. An excellent conversion per Beattie left the score 12-0 at the break.
Dungannon started the 2nd half well with skipper Cheryl McWilliams bursting through after 3 minutes. Again, Beattie added the extras and the hosts looked good at 19-0. Midway through the half Ruth Sloan dotted down for Beattie to convert making it 26-0 nil. The final try was scored by Lesley Coulter on 65 minutes before Cooke claimed a try in the closing stages. With conditions deteriorating rapidly the ref blew the final whistle at 31-5. Coach, Charlie Farrel was delighted with the performance but more work is required before Cup time next weekend when the ladies host Lisburn in the opening round.
