Off the back of a narrow loss to Virginia on the opening day of the 2018/19 Youth League a reinvigorated and stronger Dungannon team made the long journey West to Swellan Park to take on Cavan.
From the off, Dungannon’s running with the ball was impressive, coming from their own 22- meter area at times to score. They shocked the hosts with a 5 try, 4 conversion lead in the first 15 minutes punishing any Cavan mistakes and by half time Dungannon had added 2 more tries one of which was converted to end the half 45-0
With 5 new replacements taking to the field to freshen up the front row and wings, Dungannon started the second half with a reenergised team and it wasn’t long before they got back to business running the ball from deep. The speed from getting the ball away from the breakdown and the continuity of support pulled the hosts from one side of the pitch to the other, creating gaps that were exploited with clinical ruthlessness, they simply took the Cavan side apart running in 7 more tries, two of which were converted to end the game 84-0
The man of the match by unanimous decision from the entire team and coaches goes to Brooklyn Fletcher. Brooklyn caused absolute havoc to the Cavan ball carriers and was instrumental in turning them over and winning the ball. He put his body on the line and got into the faces of the Cavan players that no only annoyed them but got them angry to the point that they lost their discipline and gave away penalties.
Next week we are at home to an unbeaten Armagh.
