Presidents Message

I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity of representing our illustrious Club as a player, and to wear the famous blue and white jersey. That adventure began 30 years ago for me. I am now honoured and humbled to have been elected as your President for the season 2024-25, and I will do my utmost to represent and uphold the values and traditions of Dungannon Football Club.

Our sesquicentennial season’s celebrations were an enormous success culminating in the magnificent Gala Ball in May and I salute our many volunteers who contributed to making the event such a memorable evening.

One might think after such an undertaking energy levels and enthusiasm may drop a little. Not a bit of it; I am delighted to report that during the ‘close’ season our industrious bands of volunteers have continued to formulate plans and generously give of their time to ensure Dungannon Football Club remains at the forefront of club rugby in the local community, and across the island of Ireland. I am enormously grateful for their commitment, professionalism and dedication to ensuring we have a thriving rugby playing environment which enables participation for players at all levels and abilities ranging from the youngest Minis to Youth, Adult and All Ireland League. I would appeal to any member who thinks he or she may be able to contribute as a volunteer to come forward and get involved in the running of your Club.

It has been particularly heartening to observe the ongoing progress and development of our Women’s rugby program during recent seasons. Although it may be one of the newer sections, it is encouraging to see the genuine enthusiasm for the game and full participation in the life of our Club.

Some of you will be aware of the extensive work being carried out on our pitches and lights at present. This is to ensure at Stevenson Park we have the best possible rugby playing facilities available for all our players though it represents a significant financial outlay.

Of course, the upkeep of our facilities and the running costs of our Club could not be met without the generous levels of financial support provided by our extremely loyal sponsors. To them we are indebted, and I would ask that you, our membership, in turn, supports them whenever possible.

Finally, I would appeal to you to ensure at all times during the forthcoming season, whether playing for, or supporting our teams at whatever level, you exhibit the highest standards of sportsmanship and behaviour consistent with the traditions and values of rugby football, to match officials, opposition players and supporters, and do nothing to besmirch the reputation of the wonderful institution that is Dungannon Football Club.

See you at the game!

Peter Sandford
